How to stay positive and avoid toxic relationships

There are so many ways to a toxic relationship. Condescending people, people with a superiority complex, racist people, homophobic people and all sorts of pathologies are common in my network. Being kind, open and willing to help is a way in which you can attract many people willing and able to drain all of your energy. Through the years I have realized there are people interested in getting on top of your head, provoking you, and even stealing from you. My advice to get rid of these people is to very kindly move apart. Most of the time toxic people are hard to get rid of and radical measures are sometimes required to get rid of them, it is like entering a gluten-free diet every so often. There are some positive outcomes to toxic relationships since they allow us to better understand our limits. Getting to know who one is and how to react to certain stimuli is always important, however, we must keep in mind ways to avoid becoming sceptical. In my life, I have had people ste...

How to survive the music business: an acidic ecosystem

Working in the music industry has been so harmful and hurting for me in so many ways. I have been judged one too many times in my network outside the music industry for choosing to work in the industry too.  For better or worse what is really valued in this industry is your passion, your talent, and capacity, which drives to a very dry and sometimes hostile atmosphere, both in the "business" side of music and the "music" side of music. For example, you can go to a music school and the advanced students will usually be very full of themselves. Also may the teachers. This is immediately scary as a kid or teenager that wants to learn music. This situation can be as intimidating as participating in a networking night of local music industry professionals. On the other hand, what people expect from you if you are working for the music industry is either for you to be famous and them to be cool for being your peeps, being able to brag about knowing you, or for you to ...

The hazards and personal risks of working in the Music Bizz

So far I have realized the following:  1. People don´t care how you feel or what you think, people care about how much money you are making and how famous you are getting.  2. People don´t believe in your talent or potential until you are actually making it on the business. Then when your popularity goes down people doubt your talent and potential, and it all repeats. People have a vivid memory of your mistakes and a blurry memory of your success.  3. You have to be showing off about things like attending to Grammys, having meetings with important people and stuff like this to be respected. While the true thing is that most productive work usually happens at your desk when you are all alone, planning and thinking.  4. People don´t take you seriously. Being an executive of the Music Industry is like being the manager of a night club. People will remember you and think of you when they need a VIP pass to the place, and then, when the night ends, they w...

S E L O R

So you´re an opportunity magnet? Share your wisdom and make things happen for you and others. Most likely you will feel stressed when you are not delegating properly and feel like "you have too much on your shoulders". Breathe, you just have to get your shit straight. You can always do more, you can always be more efficient, you can always be a better version of yourself. Find the right people, surround yourself by people that are super interested in your projects. Se every single person as a potential client for something you can offer, treat people well, you never know who will end up sticking. Make sure you have your potential clients for different things in mind at all times. Most likely they are in front of you right now but decided to talk about something they are not interested about. You´ve lost a client. Try to find out what interest people, share your goals, your dreams, that will guide you towards a healthier life, with better collaborators, and bill hel...
